Mel Montesino's brand was registered in 2005 by Sandra Isabel Barbosa. Inspired by her father and by the childhood memories that the activity conveyed to her, she invested in academic training in the area of biotechnology and a master's degree in chemistry of natural products and foods where she deepened her knowledge in beekeeping by carrying out the thesis entitled "Chemical characterization of bee pollen from the PNM”. The experience that the contact with beekeepers in the region gave her was so positive that Sandra saw in beekeeping in the Montesinho Natural Park a way of life that went against its principles: sustainability and the preservation of ecosystems.
